Greg, thanks for reading my little musings, I and the KCS appreciate it. I just happen to be a great fan of Chen Yi's music and to my ear, her "Fountains of KC" captured the subtly controlled abandon of a fountain. Kellogg's work was fine, it just paled a bit in my view to Chen Yi. I look forward to Stephen Hartke's "Muse of Missouri" in June. We are in the golden age of classical music in KC for sure.

Don,
I really enjoy reading your reviews of the concerts. I appreciate your descriptions of what worked and didn't with each performance. I must say that I tend to agree with Gerry in terms of my musical preferences for older classical but like him was very appreciative of Daniel Kellogg's pieces. I felt that it sounded much more like music to me than Chen Yi's work which seemed to me to be an exercise in how many different insturments can be incorporated into a piece. This is one of the great things about an extensive concert season is being expeosed to new and different works adn artists.

Paul, we're so excited about your upcoming visit to Kansas City. Last night James David Christie inaugurated the new Casavant organ at the Kauffman Center - He was fabulous, and so is the organ. You'll have a great time with it and I know you'll show it (and yourself) off to great advantage.

At first, I thought KCS had cross-posted the review from the Star (why?). Then, as I continued reading, confusion set in: "This is far more incisive and deeply thought-out than what I remember from my quick scan of the Star's review." Had I missed something the first time around? Then I saw Don's picture and all became clear. I'll be interested to see if KC Metropolis meets Don's high standard.
